One of the things we have tried to do is work on a culture to increase student achievement for all students. I saw in the last school I worked in, the enormous benefit of looking at student work so we can tweak our curriculum.
Joan is part of a wonderful team of nurses at the school. We have 3,000 students here, and three nurses who have to deal with about 100 youngsters a day. I don't know what we'd do without them in today's world.
We replace desks one an as-needed basis, but is this something we want to look into now? Yes.
The new (teacher) contract will call for a little more freedom for this type of work, and we will have it next year as an established practice.
I'm very proud of Danbury High School. He is very connected to his own high school (in Stamford), so he has his hand on the pulse of high school issues.
