We're a much better team than we were when we played them in December. But they're also a great team. They came out of a heck of a district, so we're going to have to play well to beat them.
He handled the ball really well and played solid defense. Blake has had a good game the last two nights, and Ryan did a lot of little things right.
He has always been bigger than most kids and could score from underneath. But at the varsity level, kids would out-jump him. So he had to figure out ways to get around them, and he did that. He went from being a role player to the go-to guy.
He carried us early on when we were struggling.
It feels good. It was a great win for us against a talented team. We got off to a rotten start but righted the ship.
We were 0-for at the three-point line. That wouldn't have been so bad for us except we had been shooting pretty well there lately. I think if we had hit one or two of those, it would have settled us down.
We needed that badly. It was good to get some scoring off the bench. But the best part about it is that he did it in our offense and didn't have to create things. This was the best that he's looked all year.
This was the best that we've worked the ball as a team all year.
Blake had a monster game. They were smart and double- and triple-teamed him, but he found ways to get around them and eventually just wore them down. He came through for us, but we just dug ourselves a hole in the third quarter.
I've never seen a team improve as much as I've seen us improve the last couple of months. We could fall flat on our face, but that won't diminish what we've done the last couple of months.
It was an exciting way to win the district title ... or any other game.
I've never flipped for home and home. But I also flipped for a Thursday game because we would have had those two players then. To play Duncanville (27-7) is hard enough, but to play them without two guards is monumental.
Ryan will come in after the game and ask what he held the other player to.
You think about where he came from ...last spring, we didn't even know if he was going to be on varsity. He was our go-to point guard, and he got better as the season went on.
Each of them have had their nights, but I'm waiting for the game when they are all three hot on the same night.
Summit was very similar to Duncanville in terms of athleticism and size. So we got what we wanted to out of that game.
It was a good team effort, and we played with a lot of energy. I challenged the players after the loss to Irving, and a mark of a champion is how a team bounces back. And we did that.
