I think customers will put up with a little less consistency and quality in tech support. After all, it's free, and you get what you pay for.
While it isn't the best solution for everyone, I think it's a great option.
You start to think of buying desktop hardware as buying a PC by day and a server on a distributed computing architecture at night. It's cheaper than the next mainframe.
