We felt it was only right that the focus of giving be made to organizations helping Katrina victims, especially when New York was given so much support in the wake of Sept. 11.

We're deeply saddened that the Uniformed Firefighters Association would withdraw their support for the memorial to honor all those lost on 9/11, including the sacrifice of the firefighters.

It's just a means to make sure that the public stays vigilant. After all, New York is a financial and cultural center and symbolizes what democracy stands for.
