Regardless of what the president may say on Tuesday night, the Republican budget is an alarming story. It includes policies that increase the deficit by nearly $300 billion, heaping mountains of debt on our children.

The Republican Party is the Grand Old Party. It's made enormous contributions to the success of our country. And it is a party that has embraced its leadership role when it has had the majority or the White House.

The federal budget should be a statement of our national values. Sadly, the Republican budget fails that test.
