I do feel that the trend is away from ageism and toward a recognition that older people have a unique voice.
Ageism is as odious as racism and sexism.
The beautiful thing is that ageism just doesn't exist on 'EastEnders.' The show saved me.
Is New Ageism inherently fascist? Of course not, though I'm happy to pronounce its babble about chakras and cosmic energy errant quackery.
There is no ageism or 'youthism' when it comes to freedom of speech. We are all citizens.
Ageism is the most pervasive form of prejudice in Britain today,
Ageism hits younger people too, who can find themselves discriminated against in the jobs market. For business to thrive in an increasingly competitive market, it must not ignore the skills of any worker, whatever their age. The regulations give younger workers new protection too.
And the kids are going through their parents' record collections -- I say kids, but really it's everything from the age of 12 up to 20s -- and a lot of them are coming along, and they don't have the ageism thing that a lot of the press do.
There is such ageism in our country. Just because you're over 40 doesn't mean you're still not hot or exciting or talented, or whatever.
The neurosis of all this ageism is that Harrison Ford, Eastwood, Redford, Newman, etc., etc., have been playing heartthrobs until they need more filters than a pack of Camels. And their girlfriends are in their 20s. But being a Movie Star changes all the rules.
It's just something that I like, and I also don't buy into the ageism theory.
