Epics Quotations

New platforms are emerging: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Xbox. And film actors are gravitating towards television, because there are basically better roles there. Television is making the kind of epics and genres that the movie studios used to make, and often doing it better with more complex narratives and corresponding budgets.

Language as a communication tool is the primary element from which literature is created. Even in pre-literate societies, it exists as songs, riddles, or epics that are chanted.

Historically, epics are set in Africa or Asia or the Wild West, but if you make an epic today it's hard to disassociate from the contemporary realities of those places.

I've done all these historical epics and chivalrous roles, but there's an odder, quirkier side to me that nobody knows about.

The fact that the students work with local not-for-profits means they have a real customer with a real need who will use what the students deliver. It helps make EPICS work as a design program.

Epics typically appeal to the collective unconscious. They are brands, deeply entrenched in the mind and such is their recall that the first week's turnout is nearly assured.

Fantasy encompasses a wide, wide spectrum of writing. We have beast fables, we have gothics, we have tales of vampires and werewolves, and we have sword and sorcery; we have epics from Homer, and there is just so much out there that we put under the umbrella of 'fantasy.'

I tried to write a more modern, edgier version of the big blockbuster novels I enjoyed reading as a teenager, and a lot of those were family epics with broad, sweeping themes,
