The studios didn't know how they would sell it, ... It's not sexy, it has some older actors. But the strange thing is, I'm seeing people in their 20s and 30s walking out of the theaters laughing and talking about the film. And older people want to hug their kids after they see the movie.

The studios aren't going to credit the genre as much as they are, you know, the marketing of an individual thing, or whatever it was. They'll try to imitate it. They want something that has the same things-young stars from TV. They think they have the formula worked out. I just think it's a fool's game.

The studios are not hiring right now, and they're beginning to have second thoughts about what they're producing. Even Dreamworks.

The studios are hedging bets. They have a known commodity. Some of these sequels have been out-earning their predecessor's opening weekend. But when it comes to final box, they don't always measure up.

Most of the press are fixated on video games. They think Sony is only in a battle with Microsoft. Sony is in a battle to make as much money as possible for the privilege of putting entertainment content in a Sony format. They already have a large group of people paying them for video games. They want a large group of studios paying them for movies.

I just go in the studio and write on the spot and see what comes out.

The fact is that HBO is doing the kind of films and the kind of stories that the movie industry used to do. You look at a lot of the specialty sections of studios that have gone under... and there's no doubt in my mind why filmmakers and screenwriters and actors are ending up at a place like HBO. They do it better than anybody.

I don't see why it's such a stretch for distributors, buyers, and studios to put cartoon characters into adult situations on film.

When studios start telling me why a particular film project won't work, I remember 'Rocky.' I remember that the biggest success Bob Chartoff and I have had was a film nobody wanted to make.
