They had us outsized at the forward and center spots. But again, that's something that we run into every night because of our lack of depth. That wasn't what cost us though. We just lost our focus when it came to getting in the paint and going after rebounds.
Darcey is one of those players you never hear much about. She is a 5-foot-8 post player who always plays against people who are at least four inches taller than she is. Darcey is a quiet person, but she always gets the job done. We wouldn't be where we are without her.
Darcey had a very good day. She kept finding gaps in their zone and the girls kept finding her open.
That first half they didn't miss many shots. If they kept shooting like that I knew it was going to be a long game. They've got good shooters.
Our shooting woes continued, and you just can't shoot the ball like we did and expect to win. They played the zone against us pretty much the entire game and we weren't able to hit shots to get us over the hump.
I'm glad that our seniors got to play a few more games. We're playing some good teams at this tournament, so you can't complain. At least we got to play two more games.
The second half, we played well and kept the lead the whole time. It was a good game for our seniors to go out on.
We started off being up by 10-12 early and they came all the way back. After halftime, they got off to a lead of eight and with seven minutes to go we were down by 14. We just kept whittling the lead down.
Their bench played a good game. Almost every team we're going to play is going to have more depth than us, so we've got to get the most out of each player as we possibly can.
We stayed calm even though we got down by nine early in the second half and we didn't shoot very well in the first half. We stayed after it. It was a great team effort.
