We may have here a security lapse that involved an individual that misplaced something and tried to engage in contradictory behavior, and, hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of this,
We propose making direct investments in areas that immediately create thousands of jobs, while addressing our long-term needs -- such as constructing new schools and making security upgrades to highways and airports, ... This government spending on infrastructure will create immediate jobs while dealing with our nation's responsibilities in areas like education, homeland security and transportation safety.
We've instituted more extensive security reviews, including polygraph tests; expanded financial disclosure programs; and forensic financial investigations for employees working in sensitive programs,
We cannot have a full economic recovery, we cannot ensure the security of this country, while the states are in the midst of the worst fiscal crisis in half a century. Direct aid to cash-strapped states is perhaps the most direct way to immediately jump-start an ailing economy.
We're very pleased with this result. It shows unity in the contact group, unity in the Security Council and it brings the United States and Russia together on this issue.
I will not tolerate security lapses and I'm outraged at what happened,
Our critical security systems are operational. All our Energy Department nuclear materials are secure, ... Some of the high explosives are kept in concrete bunkers surrounded by earth and we don't see any problem.
Every dollar governors are forced to cut out of our budgets is a dollar that's not going into the economy. . . . Every job that must be cut is another statistic in already escalating unemployment figures. . . . Every person who loses the support and services on which they rely for their livelihood and security leaves us poorer as a people and as a nation.
Based on news stories last year, some people may think that the department is solely a national security agency, ... But the fact is that the Department of Energy is at its heart a science agency. Forty percent, or $7.6 billion, of the fiscal year 2001 budget request is for research and development .... We are by far the nation's largest government agency in the physical sciences and in building and operating research facilities.
As soon as possible, what I want to hire is, hopefully, a four-star general with an extensive security background,
The United States is supportive of his trip, ... We wish him well, but we deserve the right to disagree if the conclusion of the trip is not consistent with Security Council resolutions and our own national interests.
