Beamer was a cornerback for Virginia Tech from 1966 to 1968. His coaching experience began in 1972, and from 1981 to 1986 Beamer served as the head football coach at Murray State University. We came out in the second half and really took it over. We said let's run the football and then occasionally get some play-action in there, and we didn't need much play-action, to be honest. I thought the backs ran well.

The guy played really fantastic for an opening ballgame, very much in control, ... I think he had one poor check, and that was it. For a game that was moving as fast as that one was, I think that was a great opening game for him. I think you'll see him get better each and every week.
