We're fine. That game was no indication of the two teams. The (five Maryland) turnovers just got it different than what it really was. I think both of us understand that. I know they're going to be very determined to come back and get us.

We're getting ready to play Ohio. I don't think you talk about those. The players, that shouldn't even be an issue. I'm proud. I'm proud as heck of what people think of us and what's coming around, but I know this: In this business it's one week to the next, and if we go out there and stink it up against Ohio, (the media) will be writing about something else next week.

We're not always doing things exactly right, but we're doing them full speed. When you're doing them full speed, you feel like you can get the other part of it right.

We'll see what took place and I'll talk with everyone about what happened before I make any more statements.

We treat them like men and give them some time. You have to let them come here and enjoy Jacksonville and all the things here. But they have to be smart about it.

We usually have four. The voting was so close, we went with all six.

We made a couple of plays and I really think that game gave us some momentum going down the home stretch. We were a team last year that got better as we went along, and I think that game was very instrumental in doing that.

Last year, we just had a group of players who came together and played as a team. Hopefully, this year's team can do the same thing.

Sean's been the most consistent both in getting into plays and making decisions and making throws. Sean has thrown the ball more accurately than he did last fall. He's made very good decisions. He is against a couple of quarterbacks who are more athletic than he is. So it's not so much as what he's done wrong, but the other kids have done some things right. That's why this is a tough decision.

McGrath has done very well. You'd prefer to have five guys there and they play where they play, but we're not in that position.

More years than not we've played better than we were. Last year, I'd be the first one to admit, we had a better team than our record.

Obviously, something gets their attention in that climate.

Right now, Macho may be the only guy that does play, ... And we're going to work to get him more reps. He has to practice well to get to where he knows what's going on and feels comfortable. You don't want to put him in there and something bad happens early.

Riding the bus on a trip like this is just as fast when you consider all the time it takes to get guys and equipment checked through the airports these days.

I wouldn't say there's no chance ... I would want him to make that decision, and I'd want him to feel great about playing.

If we play like Virginia Tech plays, we'll win the football game. Be efficient, hard-nosed, tough, chasing the football, playing aggressively. Now if we get a bunch of penalties like we did in the first half, we're not going to win.

I am very appreciative to the university for allowing me to finish my coaching career at Virginia Tech. This is the only place I want to coach, and it's a great place to coach because of the administration and our great fan support.

But we'll see. He hasn't seen this front seven running after him. We'll see how he reacts to that.

But that good football team - we fumbled five times, we threw three interceptions and we had 13 penalties for 115 yards.

Bud's defense played great. Getting a field goal returned and scoring three times, that's pretty special.

I feel fortunate getting out of here with the win. I really thought our guys hung in there. The play wasn't always pretty.

I don't remember the last time I saw Jeff King drop a ball. He's a smart guy who is just solid in every area. He's a guy who you can trust to get things done right.

I don't think it's been easy. You see this gray hair. It's not getting any darker, I can promise you. It's good to get two road wins this year. We've just got to get better each week. That's our deal.

From the stories that I've heard about the last time we were there, I thought things got a little shaky up in the stands,

Glennon actually asked if it was going to be mopup to use Cory. We'll go back and sort it all out. I thought Cory did some good stuff.

If we would have gotten over the hump and gotten things to turn our way, with the momentum, I think we could have been all right.

He's confident out there. He takes control. There are a lot of things other than the play itself that you like about him.

He has a great knack of getting on to the next play, ... As soon as it's over, he's disappointed. Now, he's ready to try and win the football game for us.

He has to get some things done. When he gets them done, we'd like to get him back on the program. It's a real important time for him. At the same time, we have to do what's best for him and the people within our program. That's just the way it is.

He had a lot of people in there in the backfield with him,

He may. I think he does some things that tells you he can be in that running.

Whatever happened is unfortunate. I'm not happy about some of the things that happened in the first half. We'll leave it at that.

We take pride in our program in doing things right . . . just too many things that weren't quite right, ... I hate to see anyone's story here not be successful. You want it to turn out right, you work for it to come out right. Just too many situations. I thought this was what's best for our football team.

We thought with Marcus against a team like Miami, you get a guy who can really run it and it helps you some at that quarterback position. I think Marcus showed you that a couple of times, with a burst there and a couple big first-down plays.

We thought we had a shot at him. But it's tough to get those South Florida guys away from Miami.

He's a dangerous guy, and you can't tell a guy like that when to do what because I think it's very instinctive for him, ... But there's going to be a lot of big plays by his arm and his feet. I think he's a tremendous quarterback.

He runs our team. He's very much in control. He's the calmest guy on our sideline as far as I can tell, and that's the mark of a good quarterback and a good leader for your offense. He's always got it under control.

He's a guy we can really count on. He plays the same way, whether it's on national TV, regional TV or no TV. He's just solid as a rock. I think he's got a great future.

He's a guy that's worked hard, done a lot for this program, and it couldn't have happened to a better kid.

He's a tough kid. I'm disappointed for Jimmy, but if he can't go, it's time for Brandon Frye to step it up.

He's going to be going up against a pretty good player, and I don't think you can go out there and be 90 percent and be effective. You have to be 100 percent.

He's going to be a great player, but right now I think there's a lot being thrown at him and his mind is tying up his feet a little bit,

He's been good, ... He's got everything it takes. He's tougher than heck and he's nasty on the football field. He's a nice person off the field, but to be a great player, you've got to have that nasty attitude and he's got it.

He's been around, and he works hard. He just hasn't been able to get on the field. ? You always want to give those guys a chance if you can.

He's doing the things you want to see a quarterback do.

We have to be able to run it and throw it,

He's played a lot at both positions. He played a year at guard. He played a year at center. Now, he's going back and forth. It's not like one of those positions is a new position for him. And I think his intelligence helps him. Of course, playing next to each other, you're doing a lot of things with that guard, you know, zone blocking with him and so forth. I think that makes it a little easier.

He didn't win all of those games by being a bad coach, ... Nebraska got rid of a good football coach, there's no doubt about it.

Just reading his comments, he seems like a very confident guy.

I think it's a credit to our defense to be able to stop them after turnovers on our side of the 50-yard line. Turnovers on the 1-yard line are also hard to overcome. That's not us.

I think in the long run, this is what needed to happen, ... We think this is what's best for our football team and for the player. We talked about it for some time. In the end, we think he's going to be a great offensive tackle. He was a very good tight end, but we think he's going to be a great offensive tackle.

I think it's got the makings of a heck of a Thursday night football game. I think they're better. They talk about they're back in the title hunt, and they are. They control their own destiny.

I think it's huge. Anytime you say you're doing something for the third time in your football history, that's pretty significant.

I think you've got to check the schedule. You don't want to be playing, in my opinion, Tennessee and LSU out of conference in the same year. I think you have to get it worked out that way, too.

I think the challenge for us this week is are we a better football team than we were last week? As many good things as we did in the N.C. I believe ... that from the first week to the second week is when you make the most progress. And we have to take advantage of that situation here.

I think the best two teams are going to end up playing for it, whether it's us or not,

I thought we got after it pretty good.

I thought that thing hit the ground. I'm getting old. My eyesight's not very good, but I thought the thing hit the ground. They came back and gave him the interception. I'm sure it was the right call. It's good we've got replay.

I think we're going to have to change how we do that. Great offensive linemen are hard to find and can be hard to sign, but you need them. You can't just count on finding them anymore.

I think we have good coaches and good players in this state. We've really made an effort to re- cruit well in the state. I think the records would show that we have, particularly in the last few years. You look at our roster and it is further proof that we are winning with a lot of Virginia kids.

I thought our guys hung in there. It wasn't always pretty, but they hung in there and played hard. We all can learn from this game and be better.

I think we've proven over the years we can compete at that level. We know how to be good, it's just a matter of playing with focus.

I think we've got to help him out some, sometimes with formations and sometimes with backs, ... Whether it's Duane or someone else, you've got to give them some help.

I think what you have is a dynamic quarterback that has the ability to beat you running or beat you throwing. Pretty good guy. Pretty good quarterback.

I think both of those kids will play as hard as they can against each other. Knowing that family, I bet it'll be close afterwards, too. ... His sister (Christina) goes to school here. The whole family is close.

I think us getting Cornell showed a lot of players that Virginia Tech had something going here. Getting him here was huge for us, and it helped us get a lot more good players down the line.

I think that's what changed this game around. Instead of them being 7-3, it's 14-0. It's momentum. It's points. It's everything. There's just no bigger play in football than when you block a kick, particularly a field goal.

I think that's something, as we go through the week, we talk about a little bit and think about,

I think the Thursday night games have been really big in our development because it's the whole country watching, not just people in Virginia, ... I think they're big. If you can play well, they're a tremendous recruiting advantage. If you're playing on Saturday, you're competing against five games in your time slot. If you're playing on Thursday night, there's not much else on TV.

I think sometimes you're a better program than people realize you are. And I think that might be Louisville's case. I mean in the last three years they have won 29 games. They're for real. I think this team can play with anyone.

Jimmy has changed a lot. He's tried to do things right for this program, and I appreciate him for that.

I say come back and check with me in two years and let's see where these guys are.

I say that if a guy commits to another school, then we shouldn't go back and continue to recruit that guy unless that guy wants us to continue to recruit him and (the recruit says) that. If they say that, then I think you've got to continue to recruit them. That's my whole deal on things.

I remember watching him at Highland Springs (High School, near Richmond), and when I recruited him I told him my plan was to get him on offense some and get him on defense some, and I think he's the kind of guy that can handle it. I think he's got that kind of ability.

Our Hokie Nation has some great memories down there. We need to help as much as we can.

Ore had the numbers in that last game, both of them have done very well in practice. I've been pleased with the way both of those guys have performed.

Ore had some good runs. He put the ball on the ground one time, but I thought he showed some quickness through the hole. And I thought George Bell showed some good ability, too.

Our offense was very much aware that we hadn't scored a touchdown in two years against these guys. I thought they came in and responded to a good football team.

That day was very important, ... We were 0-2 and going against a good football team. Miami, for the past 10 to 15 years, had been the premier team in college football. To be able to beat them that day jump-started our program a little bit.

My thing is that the two football teams respect each other. I just hope the fans will do the same thing in the stands, show respect for everyone. I just hope that we keep respecting each other ...

Marcus said he didn't mean to do it. And he came back to lead us in the second half.

Marcus just went over and just apologized to Elvis. I didn't see (the play) exactly, but Marcus said he didn't really mean to do that. Whatever happened is really unfortunate.

Marcus is a good person. He made some questionable judgments, but as far as working hard to get back and making this a successful ending, he's done everything that we've asked and has had a great summer of preparation and a great preseason of preparation.

Marcus has been consistently getting better. Every week you see a little improvement.

I tell you, Ohio looked pretty good to me. I thought they looked good and they played hard.

I think he's lost a little weight, and, boy, he's running the ball great right now.

I think he's got the ability to do it. Now does he have the experience to do it? We'll see.

I think he's going to play, ... The more I read (about it), I don't think there's a question. He's going to play.

I think he takes pride in sitting in there and throwing the football, ... But people that have the ability that he has ? Michael and Marcus ? they've got to take off when they feel the need to take off. That's what he does.

I think Glennon does have a little bit of an edge. It's an open thing and we want to see some good competition. I think all our quarterbacks bring something to the table. It should be a great competition.

I think Marcus showed he's going to be dangerous. That was a fast defense chasing him, and a couple of times he outran some fast guys.

I thought he threw the deep pretty good, ... Even the first one to Josh Morgan that he didn't catch was a good throw. The others he hit on the dead run. And I thought Cory did some good stuff in there.

Maybe one practice day wasn't quite what we wanted,

I'm hoping we can get to that point.

That's what happens when you start thinking everything's OK, that 'hey, we're a good football team,' ... We were then and we are now. You've got to prove it every week. Certainly, this week we're going to be challenged.

I would like to see if we couldn't use him a little bit. We'll see if Louisville has a roster.
