I'm a big fan of documentaries. I've always loved them, and I've just never had the opportunity or the time to make a feature.
I love film, and I love seeing movies on film.
We've always been explorers. We've always wondered what's over that mountain or across that sea. I've always wondered what's out there. The fact that we now have something on another planet that's talking to us, that's pretty intelligent and showing us what it's like is astounding and exciting and who knows what we'll find up there.
We had long discussions about this, because at the beginning I was a little bit reluctant, because I thought, 'Well, are people going to think that we've got a camera on Mars?' and then, I thought, 'Well, people are far enough along. The audience is smart.' We want to show want show what the rovers are doing and we can't just have stills.
It is going to be 10 or 12 years later.
It has a good script now, so we should have that one up and running next year for release in 2008.
Presumably it's related to the fact this was so close. We may be seeing phenomena we can't see for the (bursts) that are 100 times more distant. We'll be trying to figure out that puzzle for the next days and weeks.
It is still on the front burner. We really have to get the story right. The story has to be really good for any of us to do it, and there are three pretty strong-willed creative minds involved in saying yes.
I don't think that's ever been seen before.
