If you look at the demographic breakdown where sales occur, they are much heavier along the east and west coasts. The only way Toyota can see sales growth is to appeal to a customer they really haven't had access to: the tried and true American.
The more you cluster, the more suppliers will come. Then you'll even have local tool and die shops start up.
The incentives also have been much higher down South. Farther out West, the freight cost to your supply base is going up and up. That's why GM is closing in Oklahoma City... . Georgia has been really aggressive.
