I was suddenly surprised by a man grabbing me from the back, with his arm across my throat, which prevented me from crying out.

I fully believed then that he fully intended to kill me.
I thought he was going to kill me. He grabbed me from around back with his arm around my throat, just pulling me backwards and pulling me down.
I thought he was breaking my neck -- it hurt really bad. I kept calling for help, but I was so hoarse from him choking me. I couldn't make a very big sound.
