We usually treat the indoor season as a way to keep in shape for the outdoor season.
We have nice kids; they really get along with each other.
He won that event also. There were a lot more schools that day. There were schools from Connecticut and New York at that meet.
He missed most of the week of practice and I think that had something to do with it. But, he's back and working hard. He'll get back on track.
He's going to be favored. But, you never know what's going to happen.
He was fired up about winning. Not to sound too cocky, but we kind of expected him to win. He was definitely the favorite going in.
He was excited. He's been pretty consistent all season. We've been to a lot of meets and he's performed well at them.
He'll be in the mix again this year. He already jumped 6-foot-2 at Hillhouse.
Last year our outdoor team was the state runner up. I said at the end of last season, that this year we were going to be looking to win it. If everything goes right, we should be in the mix to win it.
I was very excited with what he did. He showed he's a top runner in the state, just like I expected.
We have a very young team. A lot of the young guys are distance runners and throwers, so hopefully a few will develop. We need to get some points in those events at dual meets especially.
We want to do well at the state level. We'd also like to go back to New England's. Last year was the first time in several years we didn't go.
There's only so much we can do or lift, so I take them to these whenever I can. This isn't a competition. We take their times and it's a good way for me to see where they are and to see how they're going to do later on.
Running against each other is not the same as a meet.
It's really technical. Little mistakes can really cost you. Someone could easily jump 6-feet-8-inches on a good day and jump 6-feet-1-inch on a bad day.
Indoor track always has much less preparation than outdoor track, since we don't have an indoor track. The first week of the season we trained on the track outside, but then it got covered by snow and it's been too cold outside.
He really had no ability to practice, and to be one of the best in the state is amazing.
