I feel great about it. Corey has been a three-year starter and been a mainstay and head a great year last year. This is just a step for Corey because I feel he will go on to bigger and better things.
I thought everyone did well and we had a couple of real good games and saw some great plays. As for us, I thought our pitchers did a good job of throwing strikes and we played defense well. We got on base and scored when we needed to.
Our key today was that our pitchers threw strikes and we established big leads and held on.
(Our hitting) has been a turning point for us without a doubt. It probably started at the Lufkin tournament, and we have guys off the bench who are swinging well. It kind of helped us turn a corner.
Our main focus was to play the we've been playing.
We came out swinging against Byrd. (Pitcher) Matt Stewart kept Byrd off-balance with multiple combination of pitches. Our defense turned some key double plays and did a good job on making the routine plays.
We left way too many people on and we gave up one big inning. We had the opportunity to get runs in every inning. But I am proud of the way the kids battled back after getting down.
We left too many people on early in the game and it came back to haunt us. We had seven hits, we just have to get them in.
We got a few runs on the board and Trey went to work and kept them off the bases. Everyone got up there and competed real well at the plate tonight.
The key was we got to get some pitchers some work because the majority of innings have come from our two starters (Matt Stewart and Trey Johnson), because they've been pitching so well.
