We were definitely ready. (Friday) night we did not play our 'A' game by any means (in a 62-39 win over Denison). I thought our defense was superb.
I loved it because he was wide open. It might have been the best look he had all day, and he stepped up big.
I thought we actually played better down there than when we played them at our own place. I thought our defense was much better. Generally everybody really played well. If you win by 18 (at Clarinda), that's a great win.
We just kept fighting and clawing and hung in there. It was a physical game. Everybody wanted it, and we were fortunate enough to get a shot to go down at the end.
That's incredible ... that's Hawk 10 basketball. The crowd got their money's worth.
It wasn't the prettiest game to watch, probably, from the fan's perspective, but defensively we did what we had to do. I was so pleased. Our defense was phenomenal.
It was good enough to advance. You don't need style points in the state tournament.
It was a solid win on the road. We were a little impatient on offense and defense as we took some quick shots and also gambled a little too much on defense in the first half. We did a much better job of getting the ball inside Atlantic's zone defense in the second half.
It's completely his decision. I'm trying to talk him into coaching until he's 90.
