I would say a brace should be a secondary consideration,

The knee was not designed to be hit with all that force at all those angles, ... It has very strong ligaments, but when that sudden force is applied to those ligaments, especially with a lot of torque, things tear.

That's good news and bad news. If the same area's torn, theoretically it's still only that area of the cuff is bad. If there's a new torn area, then you wonder if there's more overall cuff vulnerability in him.
