Metal musicians say dumb things sometimes.
I'd like to feel that everyone would recognize that Judas Priest was the first true heavy metal band. I think there is a special attachment to Judas Priest and metal. We were the first band to really go out and claim ourselves to be a real metal band.
Priest is reunited after many years of rumors, the big thing being the fans.
We'll just do it like we always did. I'll sit down with Ken and Glen and we'll start jamming and we'll slowly put the jigsaw of metal together. I know we will make another terrific metal masterpiece ....
Each of the bands that are being honored are going to play a couple of songs apiece. And I also believe that there's going to be another band that will be doing a 'tribute' to the band that they're friends of. It's going to be terrific I can't wait.
That's the life really isn't it? You write. You record. You play. And it never grows old.
You gotta have fun. Even now we have fun onstage.
For us Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp is bigger than the music. It is very much an experience that brings a lot of skills and discoveries about yourself together. In that respect, it also enables you to learn that being in a band is a lot tougher than sitting around and playing guitar in your bedroom.
The last thing we wanted was a copycat. When we saw [Richie Faulkner] play, we thought, "We don't have to tell this guy anything. He's got it."
I love people. I love being in a band. I love making music. I had to figure out that was way more important than being addicted.
You really have to try and find a way to communicate [in the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp], to respect each other's opinions and ideas, to be able to fight for something you feel is better than somebody else's idea.
I played the track 'Exciter' backwards and suggested to the judge that what he'd heard was, 'I asked her for a peppermint. I asked her to get me one'. When the judge heard it, his eyes lit up. It was as if he realized how ridiculous the whole thing was.
I rarely write by myself.
