Of all of my assignments, that was the most wonderful. The people were great. But most people don't realize the seven to 10 jobs that priests are doing as one job. That is a contributing factor to priest burnout.

I absolutely made the right decision. The key is serving others. That is the key to happiness for any person. Serving others brings great joy. But the major difference now is that I don't have to be exhausted anymore. I do only one job, and that's big. No, that's huge.

As a priest, I loved working with grieving families. I just know how to help families in grief and it's one of the most rewarding aspects of ministry.

It was sad, because I was happy with what I was doing. And my people were sad.

It was a wonderful, wonderful time to live in Rome. The educational opportunity was multiplied tenfold due to the variety of cultures and languages.
