My guess is they're looking to expand to the next level. They've done some very innovative development thus far, and this means they can both improve their infrastructure and prepare to scale to a higher level of membership.

It's often very hard to try to guide communities in positive directions. I think they failed here. Cleary the issue blew up, causing more community difficulty. And I also think they sent a bad message to that community.

Their (terms of service) statement was clearly crafted to protect the GLBT community. And I think they wanted to basically protect them in this instance, too. But they seem to have overstepped what was appropriate.
