We were down and as a captain I had to step up and play my hardest. I played hard on defense and hard on offense. I just had to get the win.

After losing in the quarterfinals for six years straight, this feels good. We didn't play with any passion in the second period, but our captains got things squared away between periods. Spaulding's too good to play a man down. We told them it was still within reach, go show some heart.

He was raw -- he had quickness, and that's what we saw. But (defensive line) coaches Keith Millard and Sam Clancy worked with him on pass-rushing techniques. He's a much better technician now than when he first got here.

Part of it is because of the court because is longer, and we're not used to that. We've got to get used to that because the T-dome is about the same. We've got to get ready for that. We've got to condition harder in practice.
