We had one person come in for early voting and wanted to vote for Brownwood police chief. We had to explain that the police chief isn't being elected right now.

We're thinking it might reach 1,000 by the end of the day Friday, including mail-in ballots.

Early voting got off to a slow start last week, but it has steadily picked up. The elections office wants to encourage every registered voter to get out and vote.

Everything went really well. We had no problems with the machines. There were a few things I would like to do differently as far as organization goes when the ballots are brought in, but others said they thought it went smoothly.

This is something that is affecting counties across the state. Until the programming is complete, we'll be back to the old ballot box. But we will be ready for early voting to start Tuesday morning.
