I've always wanted to be here. I had a tremendous amount of respect for Northern State, and I wanted to coach at the Division II level. I have nothing against the NAIA, I just want to be a Division II coach. So when the position opened up, I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to be here. Psychologically, it was the lift we needed. Both teams were hitting the ball really well. We were just hitting right with them, which is something I knew we were capable of doing.

They had one big inning. We had a walk and an error and the wheels fell off for us. It was a 4-3 game at that point. Christi ran out of gas a little. Take away the walk and the error and that changes everything.

It was a well-played game by both teams. We happened to put something together at the right time.

Depth was one of our biggest concerns last year. We only had 13 players, so we really added to our depth. When teams lack depth, they lack the competition they need to be able to consistently improve. That's one of the things that hurts teams when they have a small roster. Everyone knows they're going to have to play. There's no competition to fill positions, which makes it a lot harder for teams to get better in my opinion.

It was a pitcher's duel. We hit the ball really hard, but right at Sioux Falls.

It was kind of a tale of two games. In game one, we dominated and controlled things offensively and defensively and played with a high level of energy. In game two, we got caught flat-footed a little bit.

It was a back-and-forth game until the bottom of the sixth. We started off with two fielding errors and they had a bases-loaded double. We have to learn not to give teams extra outs.

They are very good and very well-coached. We're excited (about facing them again). We'll do some different things defensively and work on our mentality. If we can learn from this, it wasn't a bad day. If we don't, then it was a horrible day.

It was just a great softball game. We didn't lose that game, they won it. It was a great battle. They just executed a little more than we did.

The last time we were outside was in the fall. So we're really excited to get out and play some games. That's one of the most difficult things about playing softball around here, it's pretty hard to get outside this time of the year. But indoor practices have been going well. I really like our attitude. We're going every morning at 6 a.m. Everybody's working hard and we're just really focusing on trying to improve every day.
