The American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization, and we greatly appreciate all of the financial assistance we can get from the community. But it must continue so that we can maintain the level of assistance that we are able to provide.
We cannot send volunteers in to get shot. That is not what they volunteered to do.
We have received several calls from people reporting door-to-door solicitations.
Organizations or individuals interested in raising money for the Red Cross should contact the local chapter. The chapter will give them guidance and whatever available assistance is possible whether its signage, officials banners or volunteers if available.
These people have absolutely nothing to go home to. They've seen their area on television, and they know there's nothing there.
