We are pretty much considered the underdogs here but I have a lot of confidence in the young women that are here and we are really looking ahead to a good match.

Venus has put a lot of effort into becoming an all-around player.

Leading the effort in representing our country in Fed Cup is a great responsibility and an opportunity for which I am very grateful. Being a part of the U.S. Fed Cup team as a player and coach provides a perspective on what it takes to build a championship caliber team and I am looking forward to the challenge.

I am extremely proud of my team. Everybody could see that there is teamwork on and off the court. We hit together, fight together, have dinner together. I couldn't wish for a better spirit.

I expected that we would be playing on clay. The Europeans tend to go for clay. The match is in April, which is the start of the red clay season, so it gives our players a chance to play on the same surface through the French Open.

Hopefully the young players will take something from here, my take was to give them some experience to become top players.

It is a great honor for me to continue as captain of the U.S. Fed Cup team. I am committed to working with our country's top players to field the best team possible and with one singular purpose winning the Fed Cup in 2006.

Martina Navratilova is an incredible person who has done so much for our sport. Venus and Serena are incredible. And Lisa is a good team player who plays singles and doubles well.

Lindsay and Serena are my singles players, ... Venus agreed to come, but knows she might not be playing. She's a team player.

This whole team has a lot of guts and a lot of strength. Each one of these girls is in tip-top shape and ready to go and that's all I can ask of them.

To be honest, I figured it would probably be 1-1 after today, but tomorrow is another day.

I've been following her since she was 11 or 12, I knew she could play well.

So much is owed to this legend. Althea helped me and other women to understand you can be all you can dream and more. The benefits of her contributions to tennis are still being realized and enjoyed by modern-day players.

Ranking will be a big part of it. There is a lot more that will play into it. Right now I'm just relying on what I need for the Fed Cup and I'll look at the Olympics after that.

It was a tough situation. We knew it was going to be tough when we came in. And we tried to repair as much as we could, but we came up short.

It's very pretty here. The stadium is very intimate and the court plays great. The hospitality is great and we are enjoying ourselves, everyone's been real nice.

I call it a dream team for more than one reason.
