Things look good, but I don't think the markets will really go anywhere until after we get a better read on the course of the economy and earnings.

It's frustrating right now because everybody says that stocks look relatively cheap yet everyday the market bounces around. Everybody is looking for the next hurdle. People are waiting to see what the earnings look like, and that seems to be the key driver in the current market.

I'm not sure what's holding investors back, but I'm not anxious. January was a pretty typical month and I think it's only a matter of time before markets do better. I'm just not sure what the catalyst will be.

I think the market had been pretty weak, and then we saw a little bargain hunting Monday, ... But those same people hunting for bargains yesterday got a little spooked today when they saw the AMD warning and the Alcoa miss.

It's been such a nice run already, really a good run since August. I think the market is going to chop around here, maybe end the year just a little bit higher.

People aren't going to chase those types of rallies anymore. Investors have been burnt too often and we're going to have a choppy market going forward,

It looks to me like the market is getting a little psyched-out with these psychological levels, particularly 2,000 on the Nasdaq. After hitting that, people have pulled back a little, but there's still plenty of money on the sidelines. It could inch back up.

We're in a narrow range, moving around about 1 percent over the last three days, and it looks like the markets are waiting for some economic figures or waiting on oil because there's really no reason to push anything now.

Where that integration exists is where the poker market is going -- the mix of celebrity and average Joes.

Reality is setting in. It is going to be extremely difficult for the market to rally. The market showed resilience from $40 to $60 a barrel, but I don't know about $70.

It's been happening all month where the market rallies to the top of the range and then falls off.

I think it's going to be pretty dead until everyone finds out what the Fed is going to do. It looks to me like the market is setting itself up for a little bit of profit-taking because people are concerned.

We had a big gain on the first day of the quarter, but that was too much too fast and the market hasn't been able to hang onto it.

There basically is an absence of sellers in the market. It seems the market is a little ahead of itself, but people are reluctant to sell. People are still putting money to work here in the market.

The stock market rallied late last year and early January because people thought we were near the end of the rate cycle, but now they're less sure.

If the inflation reading comes in high it could really torpedo the markets. The markets were really bracing for that figure today, going a little higher with the idea that they could really fall tomorrow.

Last week we were looking for three things: for cash to flow into mutual funds, tech stocks to do better and the market to end above 1,200. We got them all, so we were anticipating a good day today.

Everyone thinks stocks are okay, the economy is okay, but markets have been lower since the beginning of the year. People are waiting for a reason to make a move. They want to act on an event, like the earnings that are coming out or the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting.

When a rally gets under way the sellers pull away and when selling sets in the buyers pull away. We'll have to get used to this type of volatility. The market is trying to find a bottom and could take six months to do that. But people are trying to trade this market in excess of its underlying fundamentals.

I think overall the market is OK, there is still cash coming into the market, but it hasn't been a very good week.

Earnings seem to be flat to a penny better, and everyone was prepared for the worst. There don't seem to be a lot of sellers in the market, and it seems like the tide might be starting to turn. The market is fairly valued...it gives the opportunity for the economy and earnings to move higher here.

There's not a lot of selling pressure in the market. Having sat here and watched and traded, you could tell something has changed. It's a bit of a reprieve. I think the market has to prove itself ... but this rally feels a little bit different. It feels a little bit better.

It's normal, it's healthy. The market is going to need to get a little more economic news under its belt before it can move higher.

With higher interest rates, fundamentals are starting to erode. We're looking for margins and earnings to be constrained going forward.

I'm actually encouraged the market isn't down more than it is. We've been seeing a lot of rotation, but we also saw some money being put to work last week.

The market will probably drift to the upside as we close out the year but there doesn't seem to be any conviction to it.

The market is still susceptible to bad news. You can see that in today's trade. Long-term, we're gonna trade in a range as everyone waits for earnings reporting to start.

The market seems trapped between 1,200 and 1,212 on the S&P. We'll probably see a little strength later in the week, at the very least to offset last week's weakness; and if we see the S&P dip below 1,200, then I think some bargain hunters will come out.

The market has followed the same pattern for years, ... People like holidays.

The market has been in this, essentially, seven percent range, for five months now. Unfortunately, the summer months during election years tend to be pretty directionless, with people not wanting to make moves until they know what's going on with the election.

The market has been holding up, despite how bad the news is.

The latest news of the missile strike in Gaza pulled the legs out from under buyers. They stopped buying today and the market just pulled back.

(Jobs) have been one of the bright sports recently. But it's hard for me to envision the market getting any kind of legs.

I'd have liked to have seen us a bit higher, but I'm pleased that the market is at least not falling apart today. I think a lot of people are waiting to hear from Greenspan.

I think we have gotten ourselves into a classic year-end speculative mentality. I really think the market has gotten ahead of itself. People really started buying on hope. I don't rule out some year-end euphoria, but I don't think the market has a lot more upside to it.

Every time the market pulls back, people come back into the market. I think the real driver is there's no return holding cash.
