I said we've got to fix it good enough to be able to get it back on the truck. We did that, and had a little time left. I thought, Hey, let's work on it a little more and get it good enough so we can get some starting money.'

wall winning race
There were a lot of races I was going to win at Milwaukee, but I had mechanical problems or something would happen, ... In the early years, it just took a long time for me to win a race. I got in somebody's oil one time and got in the wall, had a clutch go out once. . . so when I finally won one, it was a long time coming.

across believe bought brought car early fairly half john seemed sitting ticket truck
We bought a ticket and got up in the stands. We got there fairly early and were sitting for what seemed like a half hour, 45 minutes, when all of sudden, here comes my truck and my car across the track. I told Darlene, 'I can't believe Big John (Boettcher) brought my car up here.' So I raced. That was my honeymoon.
