Most milers would never dream of running 25 laps. Dave was almost as crazy as I was. He was a fun-loving guy, full of energy and with that Hawaiian flair. He was a fierce competitor who led by example. He motivated me a lot seeing him work so hard.

Probably the biggest thing to look at is that our returnees made such a significant improvement. We competed without Neoma Palmer, who was actually our No. 1 (finisher) a year ago.

I was disappointed because they ran well but the wind really bit in to their chances of running really fast. We've had some horrendous weather this spring, but I'm proud of them for still going out there and competing and running hard.

We're optimistic, and we're excited. It was a very good start and we're just looking forward to two weeks of training, and we thought Oregon State represented well.

I'm really pleased with how we ran. The University of Idaho, a team that competed at nationals last year, we were only 40 points behind them.
