Anytime you make waves, you're not making friends. You're viewed as an oddball. For most of the faculty, athletics does not affect their vital interest. They've come to the University of Texas knowing what it is, and they expect it.

What I don't like about things like that is that for a wealthy person, the fine is a mere inconvenience. For the poor person, it's a major punishment.

I sure don't want to take money away from the University of Texas; any subsidy for a university is good. But from an equity standpoint, it isn't fair that wealthy people can treat their personal entertainment expenses as a charitable donation.

I don't see any purpose in a gross receipts tax. It's inequitable. The best way to tax a business is through an income tax.
