That's not going to create more scoring chances. Scoring chances are down because that's the way the game is played today. The players are bigger now, there's not as much room to move around. You watch old tapes, which I do quite a bit, it is a different game now.
Hockey is its own game. It's completely different than all other games, although it's getting way too close to soccer.
He didn't want Manny pressing for the job, because he's had a great season.
They didn't get a terrific report about going to impasse. If you don't go to impasse and you want to start your season up, then you're going with total replacement players, and that is a tough road. For instance, if you could find some Europeans that are not on a team's reserve list, they wouldn't be able to get visas. I think both sides have now sat back and said, 'We need each other.
It's like being coached by Red Auerbach or Bear Bryant . These are people who only come along once in a lifetime and to say he was your coach ... it's hard to put into words.
When I was in a record store with Sean Avery helping him look for CDs, I pulled out 'Tapestry.' He was like, who is Carole King ? Can you imagine?
Every boo on the road is a cheer.
The better the coaching has become, the worse the game has become.
I don't have bad relationships with my players. But I don't get into long conversations with them either.
Rick Tocchet is what I call a warrior. He really brings a lot to a team because he really believes in team play. He's tough on himself and he's tough on the team. As a coach, if you had even one guy like him on your team, you'd have a heckuva chance to do your job well.
I knew your father before you did, and I don't think he'd be too proud of what you're doing right now.
There is nothing so uncertain as a sure thing.
High sticking, tripping, slashing, spearing, charging, hooking, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, interference, roughing......everything else is just figure skating.
